How to Warm Up for Shuffling

I get it. You get your shoes on, you find the perfect shuffle spot, and you're ready to bust a move and jump right in.

But you wouldn't expect any athlete to jump right into their sport before warming up a bit first right? So WHY would you skip the warm up as a dancer? You wouldn't. RIGHT?!!!!!

It doesn't have to be long, 5-10 minutes is all and then you can get into some slow shuffles (at least that's what I prefer to do as it helps with my creativity and trialing new moves). And finally THEN you get bust it out.

I'll like to do a combination of dynamic stretching and mobility exercises to warm up my entire body (because dancing uses your full body) with extra focus on my:

  • hips (a lot of shuffling moves stem from the hips)

  • ankles (self explanatory)

  • core (all good dancing requires stability)

Some of my favorite exercises:

  • 90/90s

  • Hip airplanes

  • Hamstring scoops

  • Frog squats

  • Ankle rotations

I recently filmed my current 5 Minute Warm UP Routine that you can follow along with! It's on YouTube but also on The Shuffle Vault so every time you go practice, you can start with this quick little routine.
