How to Shuffle with Confidence

Feeling nervous about busting out your shuffle moves at your first music festival? Or maybe you're ready to take your dancing from the bedroom mirror to the big crowd? Either way—I’ve got you.
If you've ever seen one of my shuffle dance videos, you might think I’ve always been confident dancing in public. But the truth is, I used to feel super self-conscious too. What I’ve learned over time is this: confidence isn’t something you're born with—it’s something you build. And the more you practice, the easier it gets to dance like no one’s watching (even when they are 👀).
Whether you're prepping for your first rave, festival, or just want to shuffle in public without freezing up, here are three beginner-friendly tips to help you feel more confident:
1. Use Big Headphones
What's that saying, out of sight, out of mind? Well I'd like to amend it to “out of earshot, out of mind." Nothing let's me tune out the world more than my big juicy headphones (these are my faves). When the sound is crisp and immersive, it’s way easier to get in the zone and ignore everyone else. It’s a total game-changer for dancing in public.
2. Start simple
Keep your moves easy breezy to get started, just a small running man, a few t-steps and as you get more comfortable THEN turn up the volume.
Also start somewhere you feel more comfortable, maybe thats in a circle of your friends, or maybe that's off on your own in the back of the crowd. It's all about practice, and no one is expecting you to jump on stage right off the bat. Challenge yourself a little each time. Maybe you dance in more crowded areas, or maybe you allow your friend to take a video of you.
3. Fun > Perfection
Here’s the mindset shift that changed everything for me: shuffling isn’t about perfection—it’s about expression.
When you focus on having fun instead of hitting every move perfectly, your dancing becomes magnetic. People don’t care if you mess up—they’re drawn to the energy you’re giving off. And when you’re genuinely having a blast, your confidence naturally shines.
The biggest compliment I get is that I look like I'm having fun when I dance, and people love to see other people having fun. AKA more fun = better dancing, it's a win-win.
